How Do I Qualify for Membership?
Field of Membership - From its beginning, IECU was founded as a closed field of membership for the benefit of those who work in the education field as well as their families. Our membership field continues to this day to benefit the same core group as described within our Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws and approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, however, we have expanded to serve a much broader range of people living and working in Sangamon and surrounding counties.
Membership is now open to any person affiliated with the education community, including employees, retired employees, current students and alumni of any school in Sangamon, Menard, Morgan, Cass, Brown, Adams, Pike, Ford, Champaign, and Scott County Illinois, including the districts of:
Athens, Auburn, Ball Chatham, Carlinville, Greenview, New Berlin, Pawnee, Pleasant Plains,
Riverton, Rochester, ROE #1, ROE #9, Tri-City, Williamsville-Sherman, Winchester, Waverly,
Lincoln Land Community College, University of Illinois in Springfield, Robert Morris University,
Benedictine University
Those employed by Horace Mann Companies, Illinois Education Association (IEA/NEA) or subsidiaries and affiliates of IEA/NEA, and those in the immediate family of current members also qualify for membership.
Our members truly are the future of our Credit Union. If for any reason an individual leaves the employer or college/university, or has a family separation, the member remains eligible for membership and may continue to enjoy the full benefits of being an IECU member (once a member, always a member).

What Do I Need to Get Started?
In compliance with the USA Patriot Act and other federal regulations, we require a copy of your identification, Social Security Number, and a $5.00 minimum deposit to establish your membership. Acceptable forms of identification are: a valid Driver’s License, a valid state issued Identification Card, valid Military Identification Cards, and valid passports. We appreciate your support in complying with federal regulations to provide the highest security on accounts possible.
Lifetime Membership
That’s right! Once you’re a member of IECU, membership for you and your family is secure for life! Even if you move or change jobs, our network of shared branches, free ATMs and our mobile app mean that YOUR Credit Union moves with YOU!
